  • What is physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy is a means of improving human function and movement in order to maximise potential. It uses physical methods to promote, maintain and restore physical, psychological and social well-being. Physiotherapy can be used to help people experiencing a wide range of problems including muscle weakness, joint stiffness, spasticity, difficulties with walking, co-ordination and balance that may result from neurological disease or event.

Green Street Physiotherapy specialises in neurological rehabilitation but can also help with other conditions. If we are unable to help, we will happily refer you on to someone who can. We have links with other healthcare professionals such as Speech and Language Therapists and Orthotists if you require referral to another service.

  • What to expect

Following an initial telephone or email contact, an appointment will be made for your initial assessment. This will usually take between 1 and 1 1/2 hours. A comprehensive history will be taken, during which time the physiotherapist will ask lots of questions and take notes. It may be useful to consider the following questions in advance:
  • How long have you had your condition?

  • Do you have any other health issues (past medical history)?

  • What medication do you take?

  • What do you hope to achieve with physiotherapy?
Following this, a physical examination will be carried out. In order for the assessment to be accurate you may be asked to remove some of your clothes – wearing shorts and a vest is ideal for this part of the assessment.
Following the assessment, the physiotherapist will discuss with you their recommendations and agree a treatment plan. The number and frequency of visits will be determined on discussion with the client.

  • Health Insurance

Green Street Physiotherapy is able to see clients on instruction from insurance providers. Contact your insurance provider to check what is included in your policy. We require a letter from the insurance company confirming cover at the first appointment. Alternatively, on payment in full, we can provide you with receipts that can be used to claim back fees paid.

  • Do I need a referral from my GP?

No. We accept referrals from individuals as well as case managers, GP’s, Consultants and other health care professionals. We will ask you if you would like us to keep your GP informed of your progress.
